Madame Tussauds were looking to Lloyds to design and build a lifting system which could be used to lift a 15foot tall, 7ft wide figure of the Hulk onto the roof of Madame Tussauds.
Lloyds set to work immediately and got their design team to design a cage which would hold the 1.5 tonne Hulk. This design was then submitted to Madame Tussauds for their approval. The brief Lloyds received was that the cage had to be as open as possible, the Hulk needed to be clearly visible to enable press photographers to get clear shots of him raised up onto the roof.
Madame Tussauds agreed with the proposal Lloyds submitted and the cage was fabricated at the Lloyds British workshops in Swansea.
On completion of the cage it was transported with special permit from Swansea to the Tussauds Group Studios in West London on Wednesday 18th June.
Lloyds British staff - London branch arrived on site at the studios, assembled the cage around the Hulk and then it was lifted over the containing walls of the workshops onto a low loader and transported to the Madame Tussauds attraction on Baker Street where it was lifted onto the roof. It was held there whilst the press took their photos and film coverage was made, then the cage was lowered back to the ground.
You can now come face to knee with the Hulk (is now safely contained) in a new interactive attraction at Madame Tussauds.
