Meeting customers’ expectations is one thing , exceeding them is another. In the competitive world of Lifting Engineering , only one company can demonstrate that they have the pioneering spirit to not only set the standard in new and emerging markets, but then go one further and raise the bar even higher to achieve heightened safety practices.
The Lloyds Group has once again set a new “first“, by being the only company in West Africa to manufacture onsite wire rope in accordance with the International Standards BS EN 13414 and D.N.V.2.7-1. offering the market high quality safety critical products, but at rates commensurate with the local economy.
With a modern slinging and rigging manufacturing workshop and product supply hub, Lloyds British are now also able to offer wire rope destruction tests up to 100 tonnes , which offers an invaluable service for clients such as the Ghanaian Oil and Gas Industries.
To complement the Engineering Services onsite, Lloyds British have also opened a state of the art training school to meet the increasing needs for the most up to date safety training from their clients in both Ghana and surrounding countries.
Ian White, Chief Executive and Chairman said “It was a great privilege to personally ‘cut the ribbon’ on the opening day of our dedicated facilities in Takoradi and to now see how the market has embraced our standards as the regional lead body for the Lifting Industry is truly a vote of confidence for the Lloyds Group and for our standing in the Industry, not just in Ghana but worldwide“.

The Lloyds British Group in the last year alone, has shown unprecedented growth in Ghana, West Africa, with a track record for business growth and technical excellence un-matched by any of its competitors.
Such accolades, are based on the significant improvements already proven in work place safety, which have resulted from the Groups major investment in the West African oil, gas and mining sectors.
Now established as the market leader for third party inspections of lifting equipment and health and safety training , Lloyds British are now crossing borders into Nigeria and other neighbouring states, as the key producers and support companies enroll us to become their preferred service partners in front line operations.
Ian White, Chairman and Chief Executive said "The Lloyds British Group has already made a significant investment in resources and personnel to support the growing West African sector and our world wide network of offices, supply hubs and dedicated training centres, have from day one, been able to offer an un-matched "first in service" commitment to our clients, which no other provider could possibly have offered".
Even during its rapid expansion, Lloyds British is also quickly being regarded as the definitive body on technical advice and guidance for the "Broader Lifting Industry", as trade associations are unable to provide such a wide range of expertise on specialist practices.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of under-hook attachments Lloyds Somers have been chosen to design, manufacture and supply nineteen (19) Powered Sheet Pack Lifters to a U.K. client, in order to minimise the risks associated with using manual plate grabs, whilst also increasing efficiency through a reduction in double handling and an increased lifting capability.
The Lifters provide “Hands Free” operation when handling sheet packs. The lifting legs are electrically driven using Somers, well proven rack and pinion drive system and purpose designed self sustaining gearbox. The slew (rotate) motion being driven electrically through a worm motor gearbox and anti-friction slew ring, which is suitable for eccentric loading.
The new design of Lloyds Somers Sheet Pack Lifter allows the crane driver to align and position the sheet packs within the distribution facility whilst standing well away from the danger area.
The lifter is particularly useful when loading to and from road transport due to the potential risks when using manual plate grabs due to the nature of the task and the need for personnel to manually withdraw the grabs from the load.
Somers Sheet Pack Lifters are designed to the latest European Norms, are CE marked and are rigorously tested at our works prior to despatch.
The enclosed brochure provides a brief overview of just a few of the products previously designed and manufactured by Somers which are tailored to suit customers’ particular requirements.
If you wish to find out more about the Sheet Lifters or if you have any handling problems whatsoever, please contact us and we will arrange for one of our experienced Design/Sales team to make contact and undertake a review of your requirements at your convenience.
